Introduction

David Henry Hwang is a contemporary American playwright. He was born in Los Angeles in 1957 to immigrants. He graduated from Stanford University in 1979 and went to Yale in 1980. He is most famous for M. Butterfly (1993),

Recognition&Awards

Hwang won Broadway's 1988 Tony Award as author of Best Play winner "M. Butterfly." In 1998 and 2003, he was also nominated twice as the author of Best Play nominee "Golden Child," and as Best Book (Musical) for a revival and revision of "Flower Drum Song."

He was also nominated for the 1989 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the play "M. Butterfly" and for the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the play "Yellow Face".

Influences

Hwang’s success builds the milestone of A/PIA stage performance. His works concentrate on the differences between the East and West and particularly focus on the immigrants’ issues in the US, which arouse widely attention of society.
