No. 15 Sui Sin Far

Introduction

Sui Sin Far is a writer known by writing about Chinese people. She was born in England and moved to New York in early 1870s. She began writing at an early age and gains success by a large number of short stories and fictions. She died in Montreal.

Recognition&Awards

Far published a large amount of short stories and articles. Her stories were very popular, especially in Asian American communities.

Influences

Far is regarded as the first fiction writer of Asian descent in America and is the representative of the early A/PIA literature. Far's stories focus on Chinese immigrants to the America. Far criticizes the stereotypes towards Chinese people and the government policies against immigrants. After her and her sister Winnifred Eaton’s success, A/PIA literature has been acknowledged by American society. (Wikipedia)
